prompt: sugar plum #1: my true love gave to me
summary: house rules: you have to kiss someone if you end up under the mistletoe together! hijinks ensue. (Mariel/Tristan)
notes: the second of twenty five kisses under the mistletoe at a Christmas party Nikos is hosting
Tristan gazed upward at the mistletoe, eyes narrowed for a moment. "There's no way around it if you want to get into the dining room." It wasn't a question.
"Oh, you are clever," said Nikos, from within the kitchen.
"What?" asked Mariel. She nudged Tristan affectionately, a smile playing across her lips. "Do you mind that you'll have to kiss me if you want to eat dinner?"
"Not at all." Tristan smiled back and leaned towards her. Lowering his voice, he murmured, "I'm just worried about who else I'll end up kissing tonight. Or who might end up kissing you."
He must not have been quiet enough, because Koji broke into peals of laughter. "Don' worry, don' nobody wanna kiss yer wife 'cept you." Aya hmphed behind him, and Koji added, "You'n Miss Scarlett, anyway."
"See if I ever kiss you again, Mr Kotobuki," she pouted. "You tasted like an ash tray and mulled wine and you haven't even offered me a glass yet, you despicable man."
With Koji distracted ladling Aya a glass of hot wine from the pot on the stove, Mariel stood on her toes to place a quick kiss on the corner of Tristan's mouth, while Nikos pretended not to notice.
"Merry Christmas," she whispered to him, under the general din of cooking and chattering. "I missed you."
Tristan pulled her close and rested his chin on top of her head for a moment, holding her tight against the cold and dark outside. He kissed her hair.
"I missed you, too. Merry Christmas, Mariel."
