Salomé plays her cards close.
Daybreak
She shields her eyes against the morning light with the hand not holding the bottle.
Countdown
The rag catches and she hurls the bottle overhand through the window before shoving him to the ground and falling beside him with her arms over her head.
Order
"Don't sirrah me," Salomé hisses, drawing her hand across her throat as she glares up at Gabriel towering over her.
Proposition
"Jude, I don't trust you as far as I can throw you."
Compass
When Jude asks Salomé about the golden trinket she's cradling in her hands, she looks up at him sharply and says, "it tells the truth."
Role Models
"What Salomé doesn't know can't hurt her," says Gabriel and he offers Jude the flask in his hand.
Snow
When Kristopher wakes to see the snow falling outside, he doesn't run out into it and play like the other children, but waits patiently in the warm safety of his bed until Gabriel comes to rescue him from the cold.
Lawyer
Gabriel has to turn away and dry his eyes when he sees the paperwork: official papers, notarized by the Chairman of the Communist Party of the People's Republic of Heaven, certifying the adoption of Kristopher Tjäder-Aldreich by Gabriel Aldreich.
Fireflies
Jude and Kristopher chase fireflies under Gabriel's watchful eye, and Jude feels like a child for the first time that he can remember.
Cowboys
"But why would they do that?" sobs Kristopher, and he is overcome with horror and clinging to Gabriel as on screen a man is beaten to death for being like his father.
Pirates
"Ahoy!" shouts Kristopher, running through the house in his first ever Halloween costume.
Giggle
"Her name is Anouk," says Kristopher, giggling as his new puppy wiggles from his arms to scrabble across the smooth kitchen floor.
Friendship
Salomé offers her hand to shake, but when Jude takes it, she pulls him forward and stands on her toes to place a kiss on his forehead in a blessing to wish him godspeed and good luck.
Order
"The Magician, Jude; The Wheel of Fortune, Gabriel; The Hanged Man, that's me," Salomé pauses before she flips the last card and says, "you are The World, Kristopher."
