"Excuse me," muttered Glory, skirting around with a plate mostly full of his son's favorites and another glass of mulled wine. He focused on balancing both to the exclusion of all else, but dropping his wineglass might have been a better outcome.

"Mistletoe," said Tristan, gesturing upward and failing to suppress a smile.

Mariel heard the laughter in his voice and turned to see what he found so funny: Glory and Abel, standing beneath the mistletoe in the front hallway, and neither of them looking thrilled about it. Both of them turned to go, but Tristan clucked. "If I had to kiss Mr Licht," he said, trailing off.

"Mr Delacroix is right, for the first time in his life," said Nikos, a little regretfully.

"Second," corrected Tristan, with a nod towards his wife, who stood with her arm around Aya's waist. She smiled back at him.

"Whatever," said Nikos. "House rules," he added, to Abel, who scowled forcefully back at his paramour.

"It's my house," countered Abel. He frowned up at Glory, as though this were somehow his fault. Glory, for his part, looked even less pleased.

Kristopher peeked out of the den at the commotion, but Glory waved him away with a tiny flick of his wrist. He sloshed wine over the edge of the glass onto his white shirt, despite all of his best efforts, and sighed. Seeing there was no avoiding the inevitable, he placed the wineglass down on the shelf. Mariel helpfully reached out and took his plate, although without leaving the safety of the far side of the hallway. She helped herself to a piece of ham while Aya primly ate the pumpkin pie. Glory looked heavenward in exasperation and pinched the bridge of his nose as if warding off an oncoming headache.

"Gabriel?" asked Abel, startled.

"Yes?" asked Glory, blinking down at him.

"Gabriel Aldreich?" he repeated, and Glory nodded, then closed his his eyes.

Abel glanced over at Mariel, who shrugged back at him; for once, she was reasonably sure that there was no way this could be her fault, or even construed as her fault. She looked curiously from Abel to her uncle and back again, frowning with thought. When Aya whispered to her, she could only shrug her shoulders and shake her head.

"Abel Cross?" asked Glory. They had never been formally introduced, always existing just past the edge of each other's social circles. Kristopher had barreled right in this evening and both of the older men had stayed to the side - opposite sides. Before Abel had a chance to confirm or deny this accusation, Glory bent forward and, unconsciously tucking his long hair back, he kissed Abel full on the lips. As he righted himself, he whispered something that made Abel turn away in anger.

Mariel raised an eyebrow in surprise, but Aya's giggling broke the awkward silence. Koji swung the front door open, followed by Silas, ostensibly having taken a smoke outside. Tristan nodded to him, waving him over as Glory snatched back what remained of his plate and stalked into the den to sit with his son.

"Well," said Tristan. "I'm certainly enlightened."

Abel snarled and disappeared into the kitchen where the mulled wine simmered on the stovetop.

"Aw, man," grumbled Koji. "Missed all the good stuff."

Silas must have drank more than he realized, because he shook his head and said, "Well, I had a good time," and kissed Koji's ear when they passed under the mistletoe.
