prompt: sugar plum #7: here we are as in olden days
summary: house rules: you have to kiss someone if you end up under the mistletoe together! hijinks ensue. (Mariel/Tristan)
notes: the ninth of twenty five kisses under the mistletoe at a Christmas party Nikos is hosting
notes2: I've been unwell for the last week or so (slept thirteen hours last night), so I'm playing catch-up now…
"Tristan!" Mariel shuffled over to her husband through the loose snow on the ground. "It's freezing! Go inside before you catch cold!"
"Someone took my coat," he said. "You'll have to keep me warm."
Mariel flicked away her cigarette and stepped on the butt, then wrapped her arms around Tristan's middle. He slipped his free hand into the front pockets for warmth and they huddled up against the freezing wind that blew in down the narrow alleyways.
"Everything all right?" asked Tristan, his breath warm against Mariel's hair. "You cut right out after…"
Mariel laughed. "Oh, that's not why," she said. "You kissed him, it can't be all bad."
"I don't know," said Tristan. "I've kissed better than him."
"So have I," replied Mariel. She kissed him.
"Miss Scarlett?" asked Tristan, when they broke apart.
Mariel giggled at that and kissed him again. "She is an excellent kisser," she said.
"You aren't half bad, yourself," said Tristan, kissing her again.
"I've been practicing while you were gone," replied Mariel. She nuzzled against him affectionately. "I missed you."
"I think they'll be missing us both," said Mariel. "It's unfair to leave Aya alone with,"
"Oh, Koji's a gentleman," said Tristan.
"I was going to say my uncle," laughed Mariel, "although I'm less convinced of Koji's manners than you."
She kissed him one last time and followed him up the steps, back into the warmth and din of Nikos's apartment, full of people and laughter and light and,
"Mistletoe," came Nikos's voice, sing-song above the clamor.
"Damn it," groaned Tristan, and he kissed Mariel once more for luck.
